Peter Obi debunks arrest rumours

Peter Obi advocates investment on youth future through education

Peter Obi on Wednesday dismissed the trending rumours of his arrest.

The Labour Party LP Presidential candidate in the 2023 election, described the rumour as false, adding that ” I am currently in my home town, Onitsha, Anambra State”.

In a statement on his X handle, Obi, stated that he is aware of the fake news circulating on the social media, but noted that the rumour is baseless.

Obi recalled that a similar fake news of his arrest also circulated in September, last year, while he was in Rwanda.

“I have been made aware of a circulating fake news about my alleged arrest,” Obi said.

” Let me state unequivocally that these claims are entirely false. I am currently at my home in Onitsha. Anambra State.

“Such fake news on my person has become a pastime for some people. Recall last year September, when I was in Rwanda, similar lies had gone out that DSS invaded my house; now, while I was in my home in Onitsha, Anambra State, they said I was arrested in Abuja.”

The former Anambra State Governor, noted that ” the motive of these peddlers cannot be positive but let us not allow baseless rumors to distract us from the critical challenges we face as a nation.

He commended members of the public, particularly his supporters for their concern, support, and dedication to the cause of a better Nigeria that is possible.

Obi has been in the news since the beginning of the new year, following his media briefing where he assessed the state of the nation and called on the All Progressive Congress APC led federal government to urgently address the rising insecurity facing the nation.

The APC in their reaction, through Felix Morka, the party’s Spokesman, stated that Obi ” has crossed the red line and should be prepared for whatever that comes his way”
Obi also revealed that he has received death threats since he gave his new year message.
