Nigeria has become a ghost of itself – Obi

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, in the 2023 election, has described the recent attacks in Plateau state as a trying moment for the people of the state and the nation as a whole.

Obi lamented that the country has become the ghost of itself as a result of deteriorating security architecture occasioned by bad governance.

Obi during a visit to Jos on Tuesday to support the party’s candidates ahead of Saturday’s Senatorial and House of Representatives elections said Nigeria as a nation is facing the most difficult situation at the moment due to the alarming insecurity across the country.

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja sometime in November 2023, nullified the elections of former Senate minority leader, Simon Mwadkwon and member representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency on the ground of non-party structure.

The Appellate Court also ordered INEC to conduct rerun elections within 90 days directing all parties to participate.

Obi said his desire is to turn the fortune of Nigeria for good as he is ready to end criminality, and starvation and pave the way for growth, ensuring the country moved from consumption to production.

He said the rascality and senseless killings must stop, and hold those responsible to face the law.

The LP chieftain added that no Nigerian deserves to reside in an IDP camp.

However, Peter Obi appealed to party loyalists to mobilize en-masse come Saturday, to vote for Barr. Gyang Zi as Senator Plateau North senatorial district and Daniel Asama as a member representing Jos North-Bassa Federal constituency under the platform of the Labour Party.

According to Obi, “Our coming here today is for two things. First, to condole with the people of Plateau over the unwarranted killings of innocent citizens. Secondly, to solicit your support. Work with the Labour Party to bring a new Nigeria.

“Our party doesn’t have money to share we have something to offer for Nigeria. I am not desperate to be Nigeria’s president but I am desperate to see Nigeria grow. Our aim is to stop criminality, and starvation, to bring growth, moving from consumption to production.

“We must put our hands together and dismantle the forces that are responsible for our underdevelopment”; Obi said.

Julius Abure, the national chairman of Labour Party, stated that it is not capturing political power that matters but what someone does with it.

He alleged that Peter Obi won the 2023 presidential election but they were robbed of their mandate.

He also dispelled a falsehood trending on social media by mischief makers to divert attention that Gyang Zi is not in the race.

“Our candidates are in the race don’t be carried away by the propaganda,” LP national chairman said.
