National Assembly partially under lock as strike enters second day

Earlier Wednesday morning, the gates of the National Assembly were locked to prevent people from going in as the strike organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)  entered the second day.

The security agencies told the worker to go home, saying there was no work that day.

Some of the Workers of the national assembly were seen going home while some were hanging around to know the way forward.

However, there have been communications from the security agencies that the gates should be open for people to enter but under heavy screening of people.

As at the time of filling this report, we are just going in.

However, journalists covering the House just got information that due to the impending labour actions and its resultant consequences, the interactive meeting of the House Committee on FERMA with the Management of FERMA scheduled for today has been postponed. Still, there was no information yet if the House will postpone plenary.

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) protested on Tuesday by locking all gates leading to the national assembly, denying entry to several workers and pedestrians.

The labour strike is a protest against the battering of NLC President Joe Ajaero and some other executives of the congress in Owerri, Imo State on November 1, as well as pending labour issues in Imo State.
