Military responds to CAN chairman’s video, rejects bias claim

Wadume Poor communication cause of killing – Defence Headquarters

The military has reacted to the allegations made by Reverend Timothy Daluk, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Mangu Chapter, accusing the military of bias and supporting a particular group, in a video being circulated in the media.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) categorically rejects these claims and emphasizes its commitment to professionalism, prompting a crucial exchange between the military and a prominent religious leader.

In the statement signed by Tukur Gusau, Acting Director Defence Information, the DHQ categorically denies the baseless and untrue accusations presented in the video. Reverend Daluk claims that the military is biased and supports a particular group against others, allegations vehemently rejected by the Defence Headquarters.

The DHQ highlighted that the accusations lack any reasonable foundation and reiterates the military’s commitment to professionalism and adherence to rules of engagement.

It also emphasized the successful efforts of troops from Operation SAFE HAVEN in enforcing a 24-hour curfew declared by the Plateau state government after a security breach in Mangu on January 23, 2024.

Expressing deep concern over a religious leader spreading falsehoods, the DHQ emphasized the military’s neutrality, professionalism, and dedication to its constitutional role of protecting citizens’ lives and property.

The statement underscored the commitment to dealing with anyone found disobeying the law, without bias or prejudice.

Calling for public support for ongoing military operations against non-state actors in troubled areas of the state, the DHQ assures that baseless accusations will not distract from their mission to restore peace and security.

The statement issued a strong caution against making malicious comments about the military, emphasizing that individuals found spreading falsehoods will face constitutional redress.

The Defence Headquarters extends gratitude to law-abiding citizens for their support and cooperation, affirming an unwavering dedication to preserving peace and security in the country.
