Ebonyi LG poll: PDP clears all 13 chairmanship, 171 councillorship seats

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has won all the 13 local government chairmanship positions and 171 councillorship seats in the local government elections held in the state on Saturday. August 29, 2020.

Jossy Eze, chairman, Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), announced this on Sunday in Abakaliki, the state capital.
About 10 political parties were said to have participated in the election, including AA, AAC, ADC, ADP, APGA, APP, BP, LP, LLPP, PDP, PRP and ZLP. However, the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), boycotted the election.
“In Ohaozara, Princess Chinyere Iyioku was elected and returned; in Onicha, Engr. Felix Igboke was elected and returned; Afikpo North, Barrister Obiageri Oko-Enyim was elected and returned; Afikpo South, Barrister Uduma Chima Eni was elected and returned; Ivo, Mr. Onyebuchi Agbadu was elected and returned; in Ezza South, Engr. Ken Eze was elected and returned; in Ezza North, Dr Norah Alo, was elected and returned,” Eze said.

“In Ishielu, Henry Eze won and was returned; in Ohaukwu, Barr Clement Odah was elected and returned; in Izzi, Paul Nwogha was elected and returned; in Ebonyi, Chinyere Ogbaga was elected and returned; in Abakaliki, Emmanuel Nwangele was elected and was returned; Ikwo, Elder Steve Orogwu was elected and returned,” he said.

The chairman of the state electoral commission did not, however, announce the details of the votes cast and what the candidates got in the election.
Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the state PDP chairman, commended EBSIEC for the peaceful conduct of the elections and urged the winners to continue to emulate the governor, David Umahi, in his good leadership style.
Meanwhile, the newly elected 13 LG chairmen will be sworn into office on Tuesday, September 1, by Governor Umahi.
A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government said the event will take place at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, amidst Covid-19 protocol.
