Buhari too frightened to leave power, may plunge Nigeria into deeper crisis- Ononuju

President-Muhammadu-Buhari

A public affairs analyst and a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Pary (PDP) Katch Ononuju has warned Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari is desperate to hang on to power by whatever means possible because he is frightened that Nigerians may reject him in the polls in 2019.

Ononuju told BusinessDay in an exclusive chat that the plan by President Buhari to deploy soldiers across the nation in the name of “Operation Python Dance” is nothing but a panic attempt to intimidate opposition voters and undermine the electoral process.

He alleged that because Buhari has not achieved anything in almost four years as President, he is prepaing to rig the elections by writing the results and forcing people to go court, warning that this could plung the nation into deeper crisis as the other parties will not take it lightly with the President.

“Buhari has nothing to campaign on, he has now brought in the destabilising logistic of frightening everybody by deploying soldiers, claiming is a python dance. Those are soldiers that will allow the APC chieftains to move about freely and as they move about freely they legitimise the fraud. So the country could go deeper into crisis,” he said.

The public intellectual noted in the chat that the bulk of Nigerians even members of the APC are not happy with Buhari over his multple failures especially as he allegdedly did not allow the party to run the government. He also alleged that some political big wigs in the APC who are standing in the campaign podium with Buhari actually dont believe in him anymore but are either too scared or to ashamed to oppose him.

“Generally the people are not happy because Buhari has so badly damaged the economy and the people are hungry,” Ononuju said.

He also stressed that Buhari’s claim to have tamed insecurity in the country has been contradicted by the widepread killings across the country especially in the north perpetrated by the now rejuvenated Boko Haram insurgents, who are sacking military bases, and the rampaging armed bandits.

“Borno is under attack by Boko Haram, Zamfara, the Defence Minister’s home state is under attack by bandits, in President Buhari’s home state, Katsina, the governor has been crying that Katsina has been under seisure and occupation by bandits, kidnappers and other criminals” he said.

He lamented that the insecurity ravaging the country had taken a heavy toll on the people as deaths and destruction have remain the daily scourges of the people, but assured that in the long run a collateral advantage will come to the Nigerian people, adding the kilings are the consequences of challenges of democratic expansion and awareness.
