Benue APC crisis gets hot as Gov. Alia warns SGF faction against holding SEC meeting

Hyacinth Alia, Benue State Governor

A team of armed policemen and some youths Thursday, cordoned off ‘Tinubu House’, the State Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC), along JS Tarka way in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The development was due to a State Executive Council (SEC) meeting allegedly called by the state working committee of the party led by Austin Agada who is loyal to leader of the party in the state and Secretary to Government of the Federation, George Akume.

But the State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia did not give approval for the meeting, insisting that he remains the leader of the party in the state and no one else.

There has been a seeming leadership tussle between Governor Alia and Senator Akume.

As such, the governor called off the purported meeting, warning that there will be consequences if any person or group attempts to disrupt the peace of the state by converging for any unauthorised meeting.

Alia in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, said the last time he checked, he was still the APC leader in the state.

“No APC meeting can be summoned without my knowledge. Not just that, as the Chief Security Officer in the state, I should know when a legitimate gathering is supposed to hold meeting.

“Nigeria is not a lawless state and so is Benue State. Those who think they can undermine the authority of the state must know this and know peace,” Alia said.
