1.5 million PVCs uncollected in Lagos- INEC

As preparation intensifies ahead of next year’s election, the Lagos State Resident electoral Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, has disclosed that about 1.5 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were uncollected in the state.

Olumekun, who was speaking Thursday at a stakeholders meeting organised in conjunction with the private sector and the policing programme in Lagos at Alausa, Ikeja, stated that the uncollected PVC’s where the ones whose registration were carried out prior to the 2015 general elections and  in the recently concluded Continuous Voter’s Registration  Exercise (CVR) in the state.

The INEC Commissioner warned that the commission would not issues out PVC’s on proxy, adding that it was currently find- turning measures to encourage the speedy collection of the PVC cards before next year’s general elections in the state.

“We have about 1.5 millions PVCs uncollected in Lagos State and this are cards whose registration was done before the 2015 elections and in the just concluded Continuous Voter’s Registrations Exercise.

“We must also add that we have Partner with mobile phone companies to help send messages to Lagosian to come and collect these cards.

“We would not issue out the cards on proxy it is the owner of the cards that must be given this cards and we are also working on other measures to make people come out and collect this cards,” Olumekun said.
