President Muhammmadu Buhari on Thursday boasted openly about the chances of the All Progressive Congress APC retuning back to power ahead of the 2019 polls, saying that “There is no doubt that victory is with us: it is ours”
The President stated this on Thursday at the inaugural meeting of the Presidential Campaign Council where National Leader of the All Progressive Congress APC, Bola Tinubu took full charge of the campaigns, with the adoption of the Council’s program of action.
Buhari, speaking at the first Presidential Campaign Council meeting at the banquet hall of the Presidential Villa, however, appealed to the Council members to dedicate and commit themselves to the task at hand, adding that “ Even though we are confident of winning, I urge you to work as hard as you can so that we can maximise the scale and extent of our victory.
The President who noted that their selection was not easy, said the council and the party settled only for the best, but charged members on unity of purpose and effective harmony and communication, adding that “ there is no political opponent you cannot overcome”
The President had informed members that the purpose of the meeting was to “consider and approve the structure and operational modalities of the Presidential Campaign Council , the terms of reference of your various directorates and organogram that will determine how you will relate with each other and how you will eventually discharge your responsibilities in the campaign”
Each member was later handed a copy of the document containing the proposal on the structure and operational modalities of the council and its directorates for the 2019 election, which were considered and approved by them.
BusinessDay gathered that the document reemphasized and reaffirmed the position of the party’s national leader, Bola Tinubu as the effective head and coordinator of all the structures on whose table the buck of decision rests.
This position was later confirmed by the party’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole who noted that the key issue was to go through the Programme of activities, calendar of campaigns, various interests group within the country, the business community, the youths, women and various special interests groups.
Also speaking on why the governors were absent from the meeting, Oshiomhole said the Governors were in their states preparing for the President’s campaign visits which is expected to take him to all the 36 states of the Federation
“ Don’t forget that elections are not defined in Abuja, it will take place in the 36 states and I’m assure there are APC members who are campaigning for the House of Assembly, various federal house and senate constituencies and governorship elections
“So it will not be helpful to bring them to Abuja. Here it is about policies, it will consummated and translated to practice across the 36 states, 774 local governments and awards.
“The whole country is mr. President constituencies so he will have to visit each of the 36 states with appropriate message reminding people always. You know in the country today , given the challenges of survival tend to forget where we are coming from, they just look at where we are.
