In recognition of Justice Mary Odili, credentials of leadership excellence, meritorious service to Nigeria in the judiciary and commitment to humanity, Call A Lawyer, a group of young lawyers committed to providing pro bono legal services and representation to vulnerable, indigent and marginalised individuals and communities, has appointed the revered former Justice of the Supreme Court to serve as the Chairperson of their Advisory Board.
In her role, she will guide young lawyers in achieving their objectives of representing the underprivileged in rural communities.
Retired Justice Mary Odili, in her acceptance speech, expressed confidence that “there is hope for vulnerable Nigerians who cannot afford legal representation through the Call A Lawyer initiative.” The highly cerebral and exceptional retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria made the remark during a strategic meeting with Call A Lawyer Management in Abuja.
Call A Lawyer is planning the maiden edition of the Nigerian Human Rights Conference in honour of Justice Mary Odili, CFR. The conference is part of the events designed to mark the 76th commemoration of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The conference will bring together stakeholders within the human rights community to discuss efficient ways to promote and protect human rights for everyone in Nigeria.

As part of the conference, Call A Lawyer is holding the Justice Mary Odili Mentorship Program. The mentorship program is designed to create a window of learning opportunities for young lawyers and law students. Participants are selected to reflect their career interests; trained and matched to a mentor, who helps to influence the Fellow for career growth and success.
According to Stanley Ekpa, Founder, of Call A Lawyer, the conference seeks to “identify and proffer practicable solutions to the challenges of human right abuse and justice delivery in Nigeria, and ensure multi-stakeholders accountability in preserving human rights in Nigeria.” Muhammad Tahir Mamman, a Project Director at Call A Lawyer, noted that the decision to hold the Nigerian Hunan Rights Conference in honour of Justice Mary Odili, CFR is a “way to inspire the next generations of Nigerians on the benefits of good values in pursuits of one’s career, diligence, hard work and excellence in life – which core values of the honouree (Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili CFR).”
