We have received over 60,000 student loan registrations from federal institutions – NELFUND

Student loan: NELFUND to unveil schools with complete data June 24

…Says applications from state institutions to begin from June 25

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) said over 60,000 students from various federal institutions have completed the registration process and 30,000 successful applications for the student loan.

Akintunde Sawyerr, the Executive Secretary of NELFUND disclosed this at the post-application launch press conference on Thursday in Abuja.

Sawyerr said with the successful launch of the scheme, plans to begin accepting applications from state institutions will begin in three weeks.

The EVS thereby urged state institutions to begin collating and submitting their students’ data. He also disclosed that only two federal universities and 5 polytechnics are yet to provide their students’ data, noting that over 90 percent of federal institutions have already provided these required data.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response to the student loan portal since the launch of our student loan application portal last Friday for students in federal institutions of higher learning, we have witnessed an extraordinary surge in applications with over 60,000 applications since the launch of the portal.

“This for us has been an overwhelming response and it serves as a testament to the critical need for financial assistance amongst our student population.”

“Expansion to state-owned tertiary institutions in line with our commitment to democratize higher education. We are excited to announce that now fund will commence accepting applications from students attending state-owned tertiary institutions in three weeks.

“We request all state institutions to submit their students data immediately, as requested and to facilitate to facilitate a smooth and seamless application process.”

Sawyer Aldo disclosed that plans to launch a comprehensive skills acquisition programme are underway.
