UNIJOS engages international consultants to attract funding, marketing opportunities for NUGA

The University of Jos has entered into a strategic partnership with an international Consulting Firm, Royal CBS Group Limited, aimed at generating funds and marketing the upcoming Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) competition.

The partnership was sealed on Friday in Jos with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both parties. Tanko Ishaya, a professor and the Vice-Chancellor of the University expressed the University’s commitment to achieving its set goals by leveraging on its partnerships with critical stakeholders.

He emphasized that a highly rated institution like Unijos cannot succeed in achieving its mission without the collaborative effort of partners who share in its vision.

The VC identified Royal CBS Group as a key partner in such an endeavour, especially in light of the MOU signed to explore more funding and sponsorship opportunities to energize the forthcoming NUGA festival being hosted by the University of Jos.

He described the signing of the MOU as a strong statement of intent, signalling the commitment to achieving the task ahead. He further reiterated that “This partnership is integral to the University’s broader objectives of improving its sports infrastructure, performance, and overall standing in national competitions like NUGA.”

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the collaboration underscores the importance of joint efforts in advancing sports development within the Nigerian University system and showcases the commitment of both Unijos and Royal CBS to raising the standards of University sports in the country.

Speaking earlier, Khalifah Onu, the Group Chairman of Royal CBS Limited explained that the purpose of the visit was to listen to all stakeholders involved in the NUGA project to understand their needs and perspectives.

Onu explained that Royal CBS intends to gather valuable insights and feedback from the University Community, which will guide the trajectory of the company’s efforts to ensure the success of the Games.

According to him, the motivation behind the collaboration with the University of Jos is to support Nigerian Universities in their bid to raise the bar in the organization of the NUGA competition by putting in place comprehensive measures, including the development of a performance dashboard to track and improve the University’s sports landscape.

He disclosed that Royal CBS is a Firm that provides innovative and sustainable solutions with great social impact and has a strong presence in both the Nigerian and United Kingdom Educational Systems through sports initiatives, stressing that part of their responsibility is to enhance the profile of the NUGA sports festival.

Onu further revealed that the partnership will not only contribute to the upcoming NUGA competition but also focus on creating enduring improvements in the Nigerian University sports sector.

For him, the signing of the MOU marks the beginning of what should be a fruitful collaboration between the parties to achieve significant milestones in University sports by using the NUGA competition as a platform for creating a more competitive environment for Nigerian University sportsmen and women.

Highpoint of the occasion was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by representatives of the two organizations in preparation for the NUGA Festival which comes up between 26th April and 10th May 2025.
