Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in a series of coordinated operations across the country, have thwarted an oil theft operation worth N292.6 million, killed 27 terrorists, arrested 85 suspects, and rescued 44 hostages.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) disclosed this in a statement, detailing the military’s intensified efforts against insurgency, oil theft, and other criminal activities between January 30 and February 7, 2025.
According to Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, troops carried out raids, ambushes, and fighting patrols to dismantle terrorist hideouts, apprehend collaborators, and recover arms and ammunition.
The DHQ noted that in the South-South, troops prevented the illegal siphoning of 253,330 litres of crude oil, 42,000 litres of illegally refined diesel, and 5,100 litres of petrol.

They also dismantled 24 illegal refining sites and confiscated weapons, motorcycles, and mobile phones linked to the operation.
“In the North East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI neutralized 18 terrorists, arrested 11, and rescued 31 kidnapped victims. They also recovered 9 AK-47 rifles, 8 Dane guns, RPG bombs, IEDs, and ammunition, among other items”, the statement reads.
Similarly, Operation WHIRL PUNCH in the North West led to the arrest of 13 extremists, the seizure of weapons, and the recovery of N725,400.
Meanwhile, Operation FANSAN YAMMA neutralized 8 terrorists, arrested 6, and freed 55 hostages.
“In the South East, troops of Operation UDO KA cracked down on IPOB/ESN operatives, arresting five and recovering arms, explosives, and communication devices”, it added.
The DHQ reaffirmed the military’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring Nigerians that security forces will continue to uphold national security while adhering to global best practices.
