Rivers’ protesters accuse Tinubu, block federal secretariat as CP pleads

The unseen flames of Nigeria’s silent war

The nationwide protests have continued in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where the protesters blocked the entire axis of the Federal Secretariat along Aba Road last Friday.

The #EndBadGovernance protesters accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of inciting the protesters by trying to stop people from participating.

Recall that the protesters, numbering over 2,000 had on Thursday held a brief siege at the federal secretariat entrance before moving to Government House, Port Harcourt, where they were addressed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The situation caused a huge traffic along the ever-busy Port Harcourt-Aba Road forcing motorists to use alternative routes.

The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, and his entourage, comprising over eight patrol vans and an armoured personnel carrier (APC), later came to pacify the protesters to leave the major roads. That was Friday.

Some of the protesters who spoke with newsmen accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of making annoying statements and actions by trying to stop the protest from holding and by calling on Nigerians not to participate in a peaceful protest that would have helped to make the feelings of Nigerians known to the government.
