A video has surfaced, revealing a Nigerian police officer engaged in an act of corruption by demanding money from a motorist.
The officer, captured in the viral video, insisted that the motorist would not be allowed to leave unless he paid the demanded bribe.
In the footage, the erring policeman can be heard saying, “Do sharp sharp and go now, if not, I will do my job.”
To make matters worse, the officer then proceeded to provide his Access Bank account details to the motorist, instructing him to transfer the money before being allowed to drive away.
Reacting to the incident, Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force, condemned the officer’s actions, describing them as “shameful” and against professional ethics.
He pledged to investigate the matter, stating, “This is not allowed. We need more info about this. We will fish him out.”
This revelation came amid other reports of alleged police misconduct, with operatives of the Nigeria Police Force accused of kidnapping a businessman in Abuja.
The victim reportedly endured extortion amounting to N29,900,000, without any proper complaint or formal statement taken by the police officers.
“We have taken over this case at the FHQ. The victims came to my office on Friday, and we have commenced the investigation into the case.
Justice must be served,” Adejobi asserted in response to the claims.
The Nigerian Police Force vows to thoroughly investigate these instances of alleged corruption within its ranks.
