Police burst criminal hideout, recover cache of arms, ammunition in Delta

In a remarkable display of vigilance and swift action, the Delta State Police Command recently uncovered a criminal hideout in Agbarho, leading to the recovery of a cache of dangerous weapons and ammunition.

The operation, conducted by dedicated police operatives following a tip-off from a vigilant community member, resulted in the seizure of three AK-49 rifles, two AK-47 rifles, and a total of 207 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, an intelligence report, received by the Command on 30/05/2024, pinpointed the location of suspected kidnappers in the bush at Uwurghelli village near the rail tracks.

He said that acting promptly on this information, the Divisional Police Officer of Agbarho, CSP Josephine Ekebuike, mobilized her team and swiftly moved to the scene. They cordoned off the area and conducted a thorough search, uncovering the hidden weapons and ammunition concealed in sack bags.

Commending the DPO’s and her team’s proactive efforts, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, emphasized the importance of police-community partnership in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality.

He urged the public to continue providing credible information to the police, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to acting swiftly on such intelligence.

CP Abaniwonda Olufemi also warned criminals sternly, emphasizing that the Command will relentlessly pursue and apprehend those involved in unlawful activities.

He assured the public that no effort would be spared in bringing criminal elements to justice and ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state.

According to Edafe, the Delta State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the suspected kidnappers who fled the scene, underscoring their determination to dismantle criminal networks and maintain law and order in the state.

“On 30/05/2024 at about 1050hrs, the Command received an intelligence report from a concerned vigilante member in Agbarho(name withheld) on the hideout of some suspected kidnappers in the bush at Uwurghelli village by the rail tracks.

“Sequel to this information, the DPO Agbarho Division CSP Josephine Ekebuike swiftly detailed and led Police operatives to the bush, cordoned off the entire area and carried out an intensive search during which sack bags were sighted hidden in the bush and upon search of the sack bags, three (3) AK-49 rifles, two (2) AK-47 Rifles, and Two Hundred and Seven (207) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered,” the statement reads in part.
