Police arrest suspected killer of divisional police officer in Delta

… recover 23 AK-47 riffles, nab 2,322 in Bauchi

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) says it has arrested notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for the death of Hassan Jega, a Chief Superintendent of Police, who was a Divisional Police Officer of Agbarho Division in Delta State until his death.

A statement released by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police and Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) however said four of the gang members had earlier been killed.

“On 1 November 2024, operatives of the FID-IRT arrested one Ogaga Dickson, male, 35 years, a member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for the death of CSP Hassan Jega, the DPO of Agbarho Division, Delta State.

“Jega was killed on 14 October 2024 during a fierce gun battle between a team of Police officers led by the deceased DPO and the assailants after the team of Policemen had foiled one of their robbery operations.

“The operatives had earlier stormed the gang’s den and engaged them in a fierce gun duel, leading to the neutralisation of four gang members.

Upon Ogaga’s arrest, the Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, one English pistol, one locally made pistol, ammunition of various calibers, and six exotic vehicles”, he said.

Similarly, Auwal Muhammed, Bauchi State Police Commissioner, has said that the Command recovered a total of twenty three AK – 47 riffles, G-3 riffles and ₦22,038,000 among other items in the State.

Muhammad, who made this known during a Press Briefing at the Bauchi State Command Headquarters on Tuesday, said that the Command would devise further strategies to safeguard lives and property, while building upon the successes achieved in 2024.

He stated that they recovered Twenty-three (23) AK-47 rifles, Four (4) G-3 riffles, Three (3) SMG riffles, Twenty-two (22) fabricated or cut-to-size firearms, Five (5) fabricated pistols, Seven hundred and forty-six (746) live ammunitions of various calibres, Thirty-two (32) magazine, One hundred (100) cartridges.

Others included Sixty-eight (68) cutlasses, Twenty-six (26) Knives, Ten (10) motor vehicles, Twenty-nine (29) motorcycles, Sixty-nine (69) handsets, Twenty-eight (28) tricycles and cash of twenty-two million and thirty-eight thousand naira ( N22,038,000).

He further said that the Command through the efforts of the State Criminal Investigation Department, the State Intelligence Department (SID), and Area commands, alongside thirty-three (33) Divisional Headquarters and tactical units have achieved a total of one thousand, one hundred and eighty-two (1182) cases were recorded, resulting in the arrest of two thousand three hundred and twenty-two (2,322) suspects.
