Oyedepo was not denied visa, US Embassy clarifies

Oyedepo

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has denied reports that it rejected the visa application of Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners’ Chapel International.

ThisDay newspaper had on Thursday reported that the Embassy denied the cleric the document, stating that he did not qualify for visa renewal. He was also urged to try again later, the paper reported.

However, on Friday afternoon, the US, in its verified Twitter page stated that the report was “completely false”.

The Embassy said the general overseer of Living Faith Bible Church Bishop David Oyedo was not denied visa, stating that the information was “manufactured”.

“FalseNews Alert! Be advised, the reports making the rounds about a visa being denied to Nigerian Bishop Oyedepo are false. If you have seen this manufactured item in the media, help defeat this #misinformation by communicating to everyone that it is completely false,” the Embassy said.

Oyedepo was recently in the news after dismissing an undisclosed number of officials for allegedly looting his church’s treasury.

The clergyman also made the headlines after he was rumoured to have approved N650 million for road repairs in Ogun state.
