NSCDC rescues woman from Osun river

NSCDC strengthens security architecture in Kwara with additional office

A middle-aged woman who jumped into Gbodofon, Osun river on Tuesday, has been rescued by the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

According to a statement by Kehinde Adeleke, spokesperson of the Osun command of the security agency, on Wednesday, a member of the public made a distress call to the search and rescue team of the command.

Adeleke said the woman claimed she came to Osogbl from Iragbiji to jump into the Gbodofon River because she was feeling fire burning in her body.

She further said the team got to the scene in less than ten minutes and rescued the victim.

She added that the woman was resuscitated before she was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

“After becoming conscious as a result of first aid treatment initially provided by the NSCDC team, the middle-aged woman explained that she came all the way from Iragbiji to Osogbo to jump into Gbodofon River because she was feeling fire burning in her body and the only way to quench the fire was to jump into the Osun river.”

Agboola Sunday, the state commandant of NSCDC, commended the Search and Rescue Team, led by Ishola Oluyinka, for being responsive and for bringing their training in disaster management to bear in such a critical situation that could have claimed the life of a fellow citizen.

Agboola assured the residents of the command’s commitment to continue to protect lives and properties.

He urged them to take care of their mental health, stressing that his men would pay close attention to all the rivers in the state to avoid future occurrences.
