Former Golden Eaglets coach Sebastine Brodericks-Imasuen, who led Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets to win the 1985 U-17 World Cup in China, is reportedly dead after a long battle with an Ischemic stroke.
According to reports, the late Nigerian coach was diagnosed with Ischemic stroke in December 2022 and had been on life support for more than a year at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital before he finally died at age 85 years.
Bamidele Oguntuashe, one of the players Brodericks-Imasuen trained at the 1989 U17 World Cup in Scotland, broke the story, and Harrison Jalla, the Chairman of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria Task Force, also confirmed the report through a WhatsApp post.
Before his death, Brodericks-Imasuen represented Nigeria at the Mexico Olympic Games in 1968, and his free kick goal helped Bendel Insurance win the Challenge Cup in 1972 before he retired from acting football and became a coach.
As coach, he led Nigeria’s team at the 1985, 1987, and 1991 U17 World Cup and was assistant to former Super Eagles coach Clemens Westerhof.
In 1956, while still a student, he made his football debut in the Challenge Cup for the Onitsha team.
