Nigerian Minister visits largest bottling plant in Africa, vows support for manufacturing sector

Minister of Trade at NBC plant

In the bid to underscore the Federal Government’s commitment to the growth of Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment paid a strategic visit to the Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd (NBC), Africa’s largest bottling plant.

Welcomed by Goran Sladic, Managing Director of NBC, along with Laolu Akinkugbe, Non-Executive Director, and other leadership members, the Minister toured the expansive 110,000 m² facility. This visit marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to foster an environment conducive to the development of manufacturing businesses in Nigeria.

During her visit, Uzoka-Anite emphasised the critical role of the real sector in Nigeria’s sustainable economic growth. “Our visit today aligns with President’s vision of industrialisation,” the Minister stated. “We are intent on creating the right environment for businesses to prosper. Our focus is on reducing poverty and fueling economic growth with sound fiscal policies.”

The Minister stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation with the private sector to tackle challenges and seize growth opportunities, highlighting the government’s dedication to public-private partnerships.

Goran Sladic, NBC’s Managing Director, expressed his enthusiasm about the visit. “Hosting the Honourable Minister is a tremendous honor. It signifies the government’s willingness to engage with us, and today’s discussions mark an important step towards a more resilient and sustainable manufacturing industry,” he said.

Sladic outlined NBC’s commitment over the past decade, noting a substantial investment of $1.32 billion in operations, supply chain innovations, and workforce training. “Our focus extends beyond our products. We are heavily invested in community programs, especially those empowering women and youth, and initiatives in water stewardship, environmental sustainability, and efficient waste management,” he added. Celebrating their 70th anniversary, NBC recently pledged a €1 million donation to drive social programs across eight Nigerian states.

As part of the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company A.G, an anchor bottler for The Coca-Cola Company, NBC plays a pivotal role in a network spanning 29 countries and reaching over 715 million consumers with more than 197 brands.

This visit represents a promising step towards fostering a robust manufacturing sector in Nigeria, with both the government and private entities like NBC playing pivotal roles in this collective endeavor.
