The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is set to launch its contactless passport application system across Europe, the UK, and Ireland on Friday, February 7, 2025. This announcement was made by Akinsola Akinlabi, NIS public relations officer, in a statement issued from Abuja on Thursday.
The system, which was first introduced in Canada on November 5, 2024, represents a significant step in the NIS’s ongoing efforts to improve service delivery to Nigerians abroad.
The Service confirmed that the rollout in these regions marks the second phase of the program, aimed at making passport renewal easier for Nigerians living overseas. The contactless application, available on the NIS mobile app on the Google Play store, allows Nigerians to renew their passports without having to visit any passport centre for biometric enrolment.
The NIS emphasized its commitment to providing innovative and efficient services to Nigerians worldwide.
