Nura Miko, the newly appointed acting controller of the Nigeria Customs Service’s Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command, has formally assumed office, pledging to prioritise integrity, due process and trade facilitation.
Miko took over from Joseph Anani, who said the command generated up to N181 billion in revenue during his eight months tenure.
At the handover ceremony, Miko promised that his leadership would be anchored on collaboration, transparency and compliance.
“I want you to know this. I am here to work with you, not merely to lead you,” he said.
“Under my watch, integrity will be non-negotiable, trade facilitation will remain our priority, due process will be strictly respected, and teamwork will be our greatest strength.”
Miko said he would build on the achievements of his predecessor and deepen cooperation with government agencies and private sector stakeholders operating within the port.
“Effective port operations depend on inter-agency synergy, mutual respect and a shared commitment to trade facilitation, revenue generation and national security,” he said, adding that the command would remain open to “constructive engagement” and a level playing field for all operators.
Outgoing controller Anani, now redeployed to Tin Can Island Port Command, described his eight-month stint at PTML as “an extraordinary privilege”.
He said the command consolidated the implementation of the Unified Customs Management System, known as B’Odogwu, following its initial rollout and early operational challenges.
“After my predecessor saw to the successful rollout of B’Odogwu and addressed the teething challenges associated with such an innovative system, we took it to the next level,” he said.
Anani said the command also strengthened enforcement operations, leading to the seizure and transfer of illicit drugs, arms and ammunition to agencies including NDLEA, NAFDAC and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
He added that PTML achieved one-hour clearance for compliant vehicle imports and promoted a compliance-driven culture among stakeholders.
“None of these would have been possible without the dedication, creativity and resilience of officers, sister agencies and stakeholders,” he said.
