Mixed reactions as Labour Party’s Peter Obi visits PDP’s Atiku Abubakar

2023 elections behind, Atiku hosts Peter Obi, in Abuja

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general elections, visited Atiku Abubakar, his contender in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Atiku revealed this in a post made on his X account on Monday.

“It was my honour and privilege to host @PeterObi today. -AA,” a caption of photos the former vice president posted reads.

Recall that Atiku and Obi contested for president and vice president, respectively, on the platform of the PDP in 2019 but lost to Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Obi dumped the PDP for the Labour Party in 2022, where he later secured the 2023 presidential ticket.

Monday’s meeting between the duo was a major one since their defeat to President Bola Tinubu in the February 2023 election.

The meeting has generated mixed reactions among Nigerians on social media. Some argued that it is an indication that both opposition leaders might work together in 2027.

See some of the reactions below.

Commenting under Atiku’s post, an X user identified as Otunba said, “If Atiku and Peter Obi work together in 2027 they’ll kick Bola Tinubu out.
Two options.
1) Atiku drops his ambition and supports Peter Obi for President.
2) Peter Obi agrees to be Atiku’s running mate, then in 2031 after Atiku’s administration Obi will run as President.”

Deborah Tolu-Kolawole said, “Scenes where PO agrees to be VP/running mate to Atiku in 2027. Will Obidients still support him? Since most people view AA as a corrupt person capable of staining PO’s white anyways, na here e Dey happen,”

“2027 for the highest bidder! If you are tilted to one side of the game so much that you become too blinded to see, your eyes go open. Agenda is agending. The game is on,” Wasiu Alli, a public affairs commentator, said.

“If you can throw weight behind Peter Obi you are definitely winning the whole next generation on your side and history will never forget you sir,” another X user, Jayeoba Oluwaseun, pleaded with Atiku.

Shafi Hamidu said, “No permanent enemy but permanent interest. I hope we all learn something from this. Obi is a wise man.”
