LASSA FEVER: Oyo Govt Places All Hospitals On Red Alert

Lassa fever claims 8 lives in Gombe

Due to reported cases of Lassa fever outbreak in some states in the country, Oyo state government says it has deployed Surveillance team to all hospitals across the state in case of any occurrence.

Over 20 persons reportedly killed through lassa fever and 82 others infected in eight different states of the federation including Kano, Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi and Ogun states.

Bashir Bello, Oyo State Commissioner For Health,  said although there is no reported case of lassa fever that at the moment, but the government has put all hospitals on red alert in case of anyone diagnosed of the infection.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan,he stated that the state government will orientate Oyo state residents about the deadly infection.

Bashir, a medical doctor added that information has been sent to all head of government owned hospitals as well as the heads of private owned hospitals to be on alert in case of any patient diagnosed of the infection.

The state government,he also mentioned has partnered the University College Hospital (UCH) for the treatment of anybody diagnosed of Lassa Fever.

While advising the residents of Oyo state to be on red alert in case they noticed anyone with the symptoms of Lassa Fever said all residents should ensure that they live in an clean environment and suffer not a rodent to live.

“Make sure you have a very clean environment, make sure that all your food stuff are well keep, and save from rodents, Lassa fever is caused by rodents and we all can stop this by using any means to flush rodents out from our different house’s, let us maintain a clean environment, this will not only prevent us from Lassa fever but also from any other unsuspected and unforseen deadly diseases” Bashir concluded.
