Lagos PDP suspends chairman, deputy

The Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday suspended Philip Olabode Aivoji, and Benedict Felix-Tai, chairman and deputy chairman of the party respectively.

Both leaders were temporarily removed from office pending the determination of a court case instituted by some party members against the executive of the Lagos PDP challenging their continued stay in office.

The party announced Sunday Olaifa, the vice chairman of West Senatorial District, as acting chairman.

Aivoji and Felix-Tai had earlier been suspended by their ward executives over alleged anti-party activities. They are, however, challenging their suspension in the court.

At a meeting on Tuesday, the state working committee of the party directed the vice chairman, West Senatorial District of the party, Olaifa, to assume the office of the chairman in acting capacity pending the outcome of the court case.

The state executive also set up a seven-man disciplinary panel, to investigate anti-party activities levelled against some leaders and members of the party during the last governorship election.

Hakeem Amode, the publicity secretary, in a statement, said the decisions were taken at a meeting of the working committee, which was held on Tuesday, April 25 to deliberate on saving the soul of the PDP in Lagos State.

He explained that the working committee took the decision to allow Aivoji and Felix-Tai to concentrate on their court case, adding that they were not to appear before the disciplinary committee.

Amode added that the setting up of the disciplinary committee was in accordance with Section 57, sub-section 1 & 2 of the party constitution.

He stated that the post-election disciplinary committee was expected to report back to the state working committee in one week.
“Please note that the action taken by the state working committee was done in accordance with the PDP constitution”, Amode added.
