The Gender Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, under the leadership of Umar Mohammed, has vowed to continue to make substantial progress in its efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and protect vulnerable individuals within the state.
Speaking with journalists at the state Command headquarters in Ilorin, Commandant Umar disclosed that the Gender Unit has attended to one hundred and fifty-nine (159) cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) over the last one year.
These cases include; 76 cases of domestic violence, physical assault and intimidation, 58 cases of abandonment of responsibility, 11 cases of sexual abuse and rape; 12 cases of threats to life and 2 cases of missing children.

He noted that several cases are currently in court and assured the public that all offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the land.
Umar reiterated the Corps’ unwavering stance of zero tolerance for Gender-Based Violence and expressed the Corps’ ongoing commitment to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to aggressively combat this societal menace.
He urged members of the public to support the Corps by providing actionable intelligence to help prevent crime in the state.
