As part of measures taken to curb crimes and criminality in the State, especially among commercial tricyclists and motorcyclists, the Kogi State Government has begun identity profiling and registration of the commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists under the auspices of Motorcycle Operators and Tricycle Owners’ Association of Nigeria, Kogi State Branch.

Atuluku Victor Levi, the Commissioner of Transportation, stated this while addressing newsmen in Lokoja, the State Capital on Sunday, explaining that the overriding importance of the exercise was to get accurate number of members of the Union and possibly checkmate infiltration by criminal elements

He equally explained that the data capturing would enable the State Government to provide welfare packages and develop a comprehensive information base, adding that all Unions members should come forth for the registration exercise as only members of both Motorcycle Operators’ Union and Tricycle Owners’ Association recognised by the State Government would be allowed to operate in the State.

:It is only the recognised unions officials that are authorized, while others not known by government will be penalized by law. Successful member will be provided with identify cards with immediate effect”, he said.

He however pointed out that it would be a punishable offence while riding Motorcycle or Tricycle without identification number, sayiig operations of unregistered motorcycles and tricycles would be outlawed in all the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State.
