Innovation not solution to all problems — Switzerland Consular General

Frank Eggman, the Switzerland Consular General, has disclosed that innovation is not the solution to all problems. He said this during an interview at the BusinessDay Economic Club event.

“Innovation is not the solution to all problems. Innovation happens when your endeavour has a need and a real meaning. This need does not happen daily, and that’s fine,” he said.

According to Eggman, it is often essential to research a problem correctly and determine if its solution needs innovation.

“Sometimes, we need to sit back and ponder whether we are going in the right direction. Also, sometimes you just need to revert to the traditional way of doing things,” he stated.

He added that innovation should be treated cautiously and considered only when it becomes expedient. “Innovation should be treated cautiously and should be used only when it is needed. Factors like location may also be a factor in deciding whether to innovate. You may innovate in a place, and it makes sense, and in another place, a few kilometres away, with a different set of people, it does not make any sense because it is not needed at the time.”

Finally, he noted that innovation would eventually become widespread in Nigeria. “When technology becomes successful, it becomes visible and desirable. Other states will see and covet it. There is no secret formula. People everywhere have adopted Netflix; if a product is good, others will look to adopt it,” Eggman added.
