IGP appoints Shogunle to lead Special Intervention Squad, Ogarashi as Marine Officer

Kayode Egbetokun, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, appealed to the parents and guardians to keep their wards off the streets, warning that anybody found wanting will face the wrath of the law.

Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has appointed Abayomi Shogunle, Commissioner of Police (CP)  to head the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad.

The appointment was announced in a statement by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, from the Force Headquarters in Abuja. As part of efforts to enhance security and combat crime along Nigeria’s inland waterways, the IGP also named Chima Ogarashi , Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) as the new Force Marine Officer (FMO).

According to him, Ogarashi, an experienced maritime security expert, will oversee marine policing and the enforcement of maritime laws. Shogunle, a seasoned officer with expertise in operations and public relations, will lead the SIS in tackling security challenges while also spearheading election security planning and school protection initiatives.

These appointments come as the Nigeria Police Force prepares to unveil 25 newly acquired gunboats and moves to procure more maritime safety equipment. The IGP noted that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen security operations on the nation’s waterways and boost public confidence in maritime safety.

The IGP reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to effectively responding to security threats, ensuring the safety of lives and property, and creating a secure environment for all Nigerians.
