Gov Umo Eno sacks entire cabinet, seeks new team for Akwa Ibom

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved his cabinet, stating the need to bring in new professionals to advance the state’s governance.

Speaking at a valedictory session held in the exco chamber on Friday, the governor commended the outgoing commissioners, noting that none of them underperformed.

“For me, if you were to be changed based on non-performance, I think none of the commissioners would go. All of you have delivered and that’s why the Arise Agenda has succeeded. But we must come to the end of a season, start another season, and keep moving,” Eno said.

A valedictory dinner in honor of the outgoing cabinet members is scheduled for Friday evening at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.

Most of the commissioners had served for nearly a decade, with many holding positions during the administration of former Governor Udom Emmanuel. Their retention in Governor Eno’s government was reportedly a move to compensate them for their service, as they were not rewarded before the last administration ended on May 29, 2023.

The cabinet shakeup reflects Governor Eno’s commitment to injecting fresh expertise into his administration while building on the foundation laid by his predecessors.
