Lagos House of Assembly is the legislative arm of the state, comprising 40 members, two from each of the 20 local government areas.
Like every legislative arm, the Lagos assembly is headed by a speaker who is elected by other lawmakers. The speaker is second in line of succession to the Lagos State governorship, after the deputy governor.

Since the legislative body was inaugurated in October 1979, there have been 10 legislative assemblies with 8 speakers. They include:
1. Oladosu Olumuyiwa Oshinowo
Oshinowo was the first speaker of the assembly, he represented Ikorodu Constituency II. He led the house between October 2, 1979 – October 5, 1983.
2. Oladimeji Longe
He was the shortest-serving speaker of the house. Assumed office on October 6, 1983 and left December 31, 1983, after a military coup that ended the second republic. He represented Itire-Ikate.
3. Shakirudeen Kinyomi
He was the speaker from January 14, 1992 to November 17, 1993. His tenure was short-lived due to the Abacha-led coup that abrogated the third republic. Kinyomi represented Ojo Constituency I.
4. Adeleke Mamora
He was the speaker of the house from June 2, 1999 to June 2, 2003.
5. Jokotola Pelumi
Pelumi headed the house between June 2, 2003 and December 29, 2005.
6. Adeyemi Ikuforiji
Ikuforiji spent the most time on the seat. He served from December 29, 2005 to June 4, 2015.
7. Mudashiru Obasa
Obasa, representing Agege Constituency I, became the speaker of the house in June 2015, he was impeached on January 13, 2025.
8. Mojisola Meranda
Meranda, representing Apapa Constituency I, succeeded Obasa on January 13, 2025, emerging as the first female to lead the house.
