Fear grips Abuja as APC chieftain shot, 5 others abducted

Fear has descended on Abuja, Nigeria’s political capital, following the shooting of a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) identified as Musa Majaga.

Maga was caught in an attack launched by a group of kidnappers in the Kwali area of the federal capital territory, in the early hours of Monday, July 15, 2024.

The criminals were said to have stormed the area at about 12:23, shot the victim in the leg and abducted five other people.

A resident of Yangoji identified as Abdullahi, recounted the terrifying event to newsmen. He explained that the kidnappers entered Majaga’s house after destroying a burglary window and eventually shot him. In a cruel twist, Majaga’s two children were also abducted.

Abdullahi added, “After they picked two of his children, they went into another apartment and abducted three other neighbours.”

We’re living in fear because we don’t know who’s next. The security agencies should intensify surveillance. We feel very unsafe with what has happened,” said Abdullahi.

A vigilante member revealed that the kidnappers exploited the shortage of cartridges among local vigilantes to carry out the abductions.

He confirmed that Majaga, who was shot in the leg, has been taken to a private hospital in Gwagwalada for treatment.

“You know the kidnappers took advantage after they got information that vigilante groups in the area were short of cartridges. They then struck and abducted five people. We have not witnessed any attack by kidnappers in the past five months here in Yangoji,” a vigilante member stated.

The FCT Police Command has yet to react to the incident officially. The community is now on edge as they await responses from security agencies.
