#EndSARS protest is a metaphor of the ills of our society- Mamora

Olorunnimbe Mamora,the Minister of state for Health on Monday said the EndSARS protest upon which the country is currently engulfed with is a metaphor of the ills of the society, nothing further that the concerns raised are beyond police reforms.

The Minister who gave this information while speaking at the bi-weekly Presidential Task Force, PTF on Monday said the government is also intensifying efforts to address key concerns in the country,adding that huge investments is already ongoing in the health sector.

According to him,the COVID 19 pandemic underscored the need for infrastructural development of the country’s health system,adding that the federal government is determined to address them.

He said: “One of the challenges we have in our hospitals is irregular and unstable power supply. This leads to frequent breakdown of sensitive medical equipment. We’re exploring opportunities that will guarantee regular power supply in our hospitals as we disuccsed partnership with Niger Delta Power Holding Company to actualise that.”

He urged protesters to abide by the non pharmaceutical interventions and the safety protocols laid down by the Nigerian Centre for Disease control.

Also in his remarks,the Sani Aliyu,the National Cordinator of the PTF said the federal government has made some notable strides in the 31st week of fighting the spread of the coronavirus.

Among the recorded strides he said,”We’ve provided N1 billion each to all the 36 states of the federation .We’ve also trained 17 000 healthcare workers in fighting the virus.

“In the six months under review, we attracted significant funding through CACOVID Commissioned temporary, and treatment centres.

Aliyu further noted that with the partnership and support of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC,69 molecular laboratories were certified.

Aliyu also called on the state government to monitor closely school reopening to avert possible resurgence of the coronavirus pandemic in schools among pupils and their teachers.
