Army to punish criminals truncating farming activities in Plateau, Kaduna, Bauchi

Abubakar Abdulsalam, the Commander, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a Major General, who is General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, has said that the Military will deal with criminals planning to hinder farming activities in Plateau, and parts of Kaduna and Bauchi States during the planting seasons.

Recall that there have been series of attacks and violence between farmers and Fulani herders over illegal grazing of cattle on people’s farms in the States mentioned, which are causing serious negative impacts on food security in the North and the entire Country.

Consequently, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, gave the warning during a seminar with farmers and other stakeholders in agricultural sector of economy with the theme: “Peaceful Co-existence: Panacea for a Successful Farming Season”, held at the 3 Division Auditorium, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.

“I will facilitate a hitch-free farming season in Plateau State and environs”, he said.

He also highlighted the nexus between food security and national security, urgimg the stakeholders to create an enabling environment for farming and herding to be carried out side by side without fear or conflict.

He decried the spate of farm destructions and attacks on cattle in the past two months which had further aggravated tension in the affected communities that led to attacks.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, who was represented by Shippi, his Special Adviser on Security as well as Governor Uba Sani, represented by Atiku Sanky, his Special Adviser on Peace and Conflict Resolution, lauded Operation Safe Heaven for bringing peace to the States.

Jacob Buba, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, lauded Operation Safe Haven for the initiative and the roles the Military is playing to restore peace in the State and its environs.
