The Abia State Government says it targets N120 billion as its Internally- Generated Revenue (IGR) for 2025, adding that the State Government is working towards realising a 207% revenue increase from the N39 billion generated last year to N120 billion this year.
Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, stated this at the Government House in Umuahia, the State Capital while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
“It has to be put on record that in the past year, the State surpassed its set target in that regard. In the 2025 Budget, the State Government has planned to scale up its IGR base by targeting about N120 billion which amounts to about 207% increase over the IGR target of the previous year.
“Consequently, the State Government is embarking on a number of reforms initiated to achieve this and to ensure that the Abia State citizens are better served through more developmental programmes and initiatives,” Kanu stated.
Meanwhile, Oladele Bankole-Balogun, the Chairman of Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has sought the partnership of the Security Agencies in order to enforce tax law in the State as part of efforts to increase the internally-generated revenue and block financial leakages
Bankole-Balogun, who paid a courtesy visit to the Edo State Commands of the Nigeria Police and Department of State Security Service, disclosed that the Revenue Board generated over N10 billion internally-generated revenue in the month of January, 2025.
While soliciting the support of the Security Agencies, he noted that the proposed partnership would be geared towards the compliance and enforcement of tax laws as well as collection of taxes in the State.
