Abdulrazaq asks AI Foundation to pursue national interest

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has urged the newly inaugurated national executive committee of the Nigeria Foundation for Artificial Intelligence (NFAI), to actively pursue a national interest and consensus on internet governance and responsible use of the AI so that public interest and national security supersedes any other agenda.

NFAI, a creation of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), brings together experts from the academia, government, and industry to promote responsible use of AI in Nigeria.

The governor, who sent hearty congratulations to the national executive committee, specifically congratulated Taofik Abdulkareem, the Chairman/CEO of Plat Technologies Limited and State Chairman of NCS a Kwaran State on his emergence as a member of the national executive council of the NFAI.

Abdulrazaq, however, called on all stakeholders to firmly push for ethical use of AI with special focus on economic growth, trade, investment, and inclusivity without jeopardising the national interest.

A statement by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, quoted him saying “there is no debate about whether or not AI has come to stay. That is foregone. But what must concern everyone is how to ensure that humanity is strengthened, and not destroyed, by AI.

“It is my hope that NFAI will work with other stakeholders to build a national consensus about ensuring ethics and discipline in the digital space, particularly among the digital natives and digital immigrants alike.”
