The statewide cleanup exercise Saturday in Anambra State, which is a part of the state of emergency on the environment declared by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo, recorded a huge success, as the residents showed total support and willfully participated in desilting drains and cleaning up their environment.

In Awka, the state capital, residents came out in numbers and participated in desilting their drains. From residential areas to markets, the responses were the same.

Across business districts, residents and business owners fully took part and willingly cleaned up their drains and environment. Some residents also took the chance to clear nearby bushes joyfully.

In Onitsha, the level of compliance was no less than it was in Awka. Onitsha residents came out and participated in cleaning up their streets and drains.

Nnewi, another commercial nerve centre of Anambra State, similarly recorded compliance with the clean-up exercise today, as residents and the business community complied with desilting their drains and waste evacuation.

Across the state, the government provided logistics for the evacuation of dirt removed from the drains.

Also, the government demonstrated seriousness by ensuring that the restriction on movement for non-essential service providers was implemented.

Importantly, Anambra residents, given the level of support for the exercise, have demonstrated that they are willing partners with the government in taking back the environment.
