Akaoma Onyemelukwe – Principal Consultant at Affinity Consulting

Akaoma is a global development expert, non-profit coach and public speaker accelerating impact and leadership in public health (Disease focused, HSS, Reforms and UHC), humanitarian, education, governance and media sectors with 20 years of managing large and complex programmes, and consulting opportunities.

Akaoma leads Affinity Consulting as the Principal Consultant providing cutting edge consultancy and advisory services within development, humanitarian and management spaces. They deliver capacity building, research, quality assurance, policy analysis, documentation, monitoring and evaluation, technical assistance and curriculum development.

As Principal Consultant at Affinity Consulting, she provides high level and expert technical support to diverse clients, including international development agencies, profit, non-profit and civil society clients and corporate clients through providing development advisory in social and public health, including development of policies, guidelines and policy analysis and implementation.

Furthermore, she provides organisational management and effectiveness advisory, supporting clients in their needs related research and evaluation, training, mentoring and coaching, communicating research results, providing development programme support, supporting documentation and providing leadership for all consulting engagements.

Onyemelukwe works through right proposals to connect NGOs, INGOs and donors around Africa to funding, strengthen capacity to deliver innovative results and build institutions that drive sustainability. She has strengthened over 1000 NGOs and CBOs, trained over 1500 NGO leaders, raised and managed over $1billion in grants and advised governments of low and middle-income countries, private sector, INGOs and NGOs. She designs, implements and evaluates programmes.

She is the founder of HEARD Africa, a brain trust, service delivery and advocacy NGO on health, education and agriculture with a focus on women, girls and young people. They do significant work on gender, girls’ education, MNCH, nutrition and agriculture.

A prime development expert, Onyemelukwe brings considerable expertise in sectoral reforms, strategic programme management and leadership, institutional capacity strengthening, gender and social inclusion, GBV, monitoring and evaluation and research (qualitative, outcome, quantitative) policy analysis, advocacy, and influencing, strategic planning, facilitation, new business development (proposals process), quality assurance, use of participatory approaches and so on.

She consults for leading organisations including FHI360, FHII Solutions, GAVI, NECT, Plan International, OPM, WHO; PACT West Africa, UNICEF, Save the children International, IRC, DAI- PERL, TA Connect, Tony Elumelu Foundation; ActionAid International Nigeria. Extensive experience with USAID, FCDO, GAC, EU, Global fund, ECHO, UN, and BMGF.

She has extensive national experience, regional experience supporting African countries on projects, building capacity of health workers and NGO leaders in Malawi, supporting HIV policy, capacity building for regional CSOs in Ethiopia and Uganda.
Akaoma holds Masters’ degrees from University of Lagos Nigeria and University of Liverpool. She is an alumnus of Harvard University School of Public Health Boston and a member of the John Maxwell Leadership team.
