Heliconia Park committed to global waste reduction and recycling, says CEO

Pasquale Fiore is the CEO of Heliconia Park, which unveiled its luxury apartment hotels at the fashionable Eko Atlantic City in Lagos recently. In this interview, Fiore said the park has a commitment to sustainability and is proud to have established a 1 MW solar plant on the grounds that generates at least 30 percent of total power from green energy. He said the apartment, in addition, is connected to the Eko Atlantic service power plant, which offers low carbon emissions. Excerpts

You recently launched Heliconia Park Lagos Luxury Apartment and Suites. What inspired this vision, and why was Eko Atlantic chosen as the location?

Heliconia Park is a testament to collaboration, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in hospitality. Launching Heliconia Park Lagos Luxury Apartments and Suites was inspired by our collective vision to redefine luxury in Nigeria. In 2022, we opened our first Heliconia Park in Port Harcourt and aimed to continue diversifying the business in Nigeria to expand our presence in the growing hospitality sector. We wanted to create a space where luxury meets comfort and a sense of belonging for our guests. As a prime location at the heart of Lagos, Eko Atlantic was a location chosen from the beginning as a hospitable, safe and eco-friendly environment for our guests that also aligns with our commitment to contributing to the shared vision of a dynamic and thriving Lagos.

As a homegrown luxury brand, how do you see this establishment contributing to Lagos’ economy, particularly in terms of job creation and fostering partnerships locally?

Heliconia Park Lagos Luxury Apartments and Suites reflects the drive to make Lagos a global hub for hospitality, investment, growth, and innovation. We currently employ more than 200 talented individuals, in addition to our third-party partners who support and manage our facilities. Heliconia Park also ensures a productive and focused environment that helps businesses, entrepreneurs, and other individuals thrive. Sustainability is increasingly a key component in the global and local hospitality industry. How are you integrating sustainability into the design, operations, and high-end amenities at Heliconia Park?

We have a commitment to sustainability and are proud to have established a 1MW solar plant on our grounds that generates at least 30% of total power from green energy. Additionally, we are connected to our Eko Atlantic service power plant, which offers low carbon emissions. At Heliconia Park, we are aligned with the global goal to reduce waste and promote recycling within our facilities. To further reduce waste, we have installed a state-of-the-art water treatment plant to ensure that we provide safe and clean water for our guests while keeping water waste to a minimum.

Following the launch of the apartment hotels, what does success look like to you in the short and long term? What do you see as the future of luxury apartment hotels in Lagos—and Nigeria?

We are driven to make Heliconia Park a recognised destination right here in the heart of Lagos. Success, for us, is reflected in the satisfaction of our guests and customers. In the short term, our focus will be on continuously enhancing the quality of our services to ensure exceptional guest experiences. We aim to create a lasting impression that keeps our customers coming back for that feeling of home and sense of belonging.

Looking ahead to the long term, we are excited about the potential for growth within the hospitality sector, especially in the luxury apartment hotel segment. In Lagos and across Nigeria, we see increasing demand for customised services and unique experiences that feel like home.
