Techno Oil Limited has concluded plans to induct an automated Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) terminal at Kirikiri in Apapa, Lagos.
The event, which is scheduled to hold on November, 18, 2020, would have the Minster of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva as a special guest of honour who would also unveil the facility.
Speaking to some journalists recently in Lagos, the Managing Director of Techno Gas and Power, Collins Onyeama explained that the building of the terminal, which holds 8,400 metric tons of cooking gas, was built by CAKASA Nigeria Ltd. in collaboration with foreign technical partners that signed a deal for the building of the terminal in November 2016.
Onyeama also stated that the facility would lift the recognition of the LPG Expansion Project of the federal government.
“The terminal will generate revenue for all tiers of government through taxes and levies and more importantly generate over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs for the teeming Nigerian populace,” he said.
To him, the facility is an enhancement to the pursuit by government to position LPG infrastructure, which he said, is presently insufficient in Nigeria.
The managing director said that the investment would also contribute significantly to the reduction of gas flaring in the country.
He recapped that Techno Oil boarded on the project to increase the consumption of LPG that currently stands at about 400,000 metric tons yearly in Nigeria.
Onyeama described Techno Gas deployment of the facility as another landmark for his company after the inauguration of its momentous LPG manufacturing plant by the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo last year.
However, he observed that the accessibility of cooking gas would daunt Nigerians from using firewood, kerosene and other fossil materials for cooking.
“Nigeria has a population of over 170 million people but, the country had less than one million households using cooking gas.
“Nigeria still ranks lowest in Sub-Saharan Africa in per capita usage of LPG, consuming 1.1kg, compared to Ghana that is currently consuming 3.0kg”, he added.
Techno Oil started operations in the past 21 years, functioning as a downstream company, marketing Esso-blended lubricants before moving into other parts of oil and gas.
