Axxela eyes energy security in Africa, reduces operational emissions by 31%

In a bold move to advance energy security across Africa, Axxela, one of sub-Saharan Africa’s leading gas and power portfolio companies, has achieved a significant milestone by reducing operational emissions by 31 percent.

Its latest 2023 Sustainability Report showcases a remarkable reduction of over 703,000 tonnes in CO2e emissions from its over 200 industrial and commercial customer facilities across various industries in Nigeria and West Africa.

The report highlighting Axxela’s substantial achievements in reducing carbon footprints and contributing to environmental preservation reflects a 30.46 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from customer locations between 2022 and 2023.

According to the company, this milestone exemplifies Axxela’s position in the advocacy for natural gas utilisation, driving environmental progress, and supporting Federal Government’s net-zero commitment.

Axxela Limited is a pioneer private sector-led developer of natural gas; a company co-owned by Helios Investment Partners LLP and Sojitz Corporation.

Axxela is a designated natural gas shipper on the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) and a member of the West African Power Pool (WAPP), delivering natural gas to about 200 industrial and commercial customers via a vast natural gas infrastructure network.
