Senate of the University of Ibadan on Monday elected Adebola Babatunde Ekanola,a Professor as an Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
This followed the directive of the Ministry of Education through the National Universities Commission to the Senate of the University of Ibadan to select one among the contestants to act as the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
The senate of the university who met on Monday, called for nominations and seconding from members at the meeting
After which members of the Senate were therefore duly accredited afresh, and voting took place through a secret ballot.
Those who contested were Adebola Babatunde Ekanola (Current Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic)
Olanike Adeyemo (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships)
A. Oluleye (former Dean, Faculty of Technology), Adigun Agbaje (Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic), and Gbemisola Oke (former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic), all professors.
The result shows that Ekanola scored, 275 votes, Adeyemo = 13 votes, A. Oluleye = 80 votes,Agbaje = 15 votes,Oke = 14 votes.
The acting VC Ekanola, until his appointment was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics.
The outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Idowu Olayinka, a Professor tenure expired on the 30th of November, 2020.
Meanwhile, workers of the institution marked the completion of the five-year tenure of the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Olayinka in style with various activities that imply they were allegedly relieved with his exit.
They started the day with a Thanksgiving before proceeding to the VC’s office at the Tekena Tamuno Building where they swept the entire place.
After this, amid shouts of joy, they proceeded to the main gate where they swept the entire area till the main road.
On getting to the main road, the workers burned all the brooms they had with them and sanitized their hands before moving back into the institution.
On getting back, they fried beans cake to mark the auspicious moment.
