The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed all institutions to begin the conduct of the first and second choice admission exercise from August 21, 2020.

This was contained in the Board’s guidelines for 2020 admission exercise signed by its registrar, Is-haq Oloyede and released on Sunday.

JAMB stressed that the Admission-Exercise for the 2020/2021 Academic Session would be conducted only on the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) and no Institution is allowed to publish, announce, exhibit or paste any name(s) of admitted candidate without prior approval of the name on CAPS.

It further stressed that all Degree, National Diploma, National Innovation Diploma and the Nigeria Certificate in Education into Full Time, Distance Learning, Part Time, Outreach, Sandwich, etc, must be processed only through the JAMB.

JAMB pointed out that the principal participants in exercise are; the Registrar JAMB; Chairman, Heads of Tertiary Institutions; Director of Admissions (JAMB) Admission Officers of Tertiary Institutions;JAMB Desk Officers; and Candidates.

The Board also directed Institutions interested in conducting any form of screening to do so, but said the gross charge for the screening should not exceed N2,000 only.

“It is not allowed for any institution to make candidates directly or indirectly incur further related expenses on screening exercise such as administrative and bank charges.

“JAMB will provide for free to all Institutions access to photo images and finger print data of candidates in order to curb the substitution of candidates who sat for the examinations”, the board said.

JAMB also stated that candidates who wrote the 2020 UTME but later obtained higher qualifications either A-levels or its equivalent, could apply to convert the UTME to the DE for free.

JAMB further warned institutions against admitting candidates whose UTME score is below the approved cut off marks, which are; Degree — 160; ND — 120; NCE — 100; NID — 100.

The Board warned that sanctions shall be applied to institutions that violate the guidelines.

It said the deadline for the 2020 Admission-Exercise to all Institutions will be determined by the Federal Ministry of Education and communicated to all institutions because of the uncertainties of Covid_19.
