Rhidwaan Gasant retires as director of MTN Nigeria after 9 years

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, the country’s biggest mobile network operator, has announced the retirement of Ridwaan Gasant who has served as an independent non-executive director for nine years, effective May 31, 2024.

According to the statement on Thursday, MTN appreciates the invaluable service of Gasant especially when he was the chairman of the board of Audit committee.

“MTN Nigeria Communications Plc (MTN Nigeria) hereby notifies the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investigating public that Rhidwaan Gasant will retire, effective May 31, 2024, having served nine years as an independent non-executive director. The board extends its appreciation to Gasant for his invaluable service, particularly, as Chairman of the the Board Audit Committee,” the statement said.

Gasant was appointed to MTN Nigeria’s executive board on April 1, 2015. He chaired the Audit, Risk Management, and Compliance Committee of MTN group companies until November 2019.

He is a member of the board of directors at AngloGold Ashanti Limited (AGA). He has served on the boards of a number of international companies within the MTN Group, including MTN SA since 2007.

He has held financial and leadership roles at companies such as Mobil Oil Southern Africa, and Engen and Rapid African Energy Holdings, a start-up oil and gas exploration company, focused on Africa.
