The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has inducted 108 environmental experts to curb the ecological challenges hindering Nigeria’s growth.

Innocent Barikor, director general at NESREA urged them to maintain the highest levels of professionalism and ethics in carrying out their duties during the ceremony held in Abuja recently.

“The new environmental consultants will help the agency mitigate impacts and ensure compliance with environmental laws. Their addition emphasises the need for vigilance against ecological threats and provides a chance to collaborate with NESREA and others to promote sustainability,” he said.

Barikor said their work is important for protecting natural resources, public health, and sustainable development by monitoring and improving environmental practices.

During the event, Godfrey Ogbemudia, the European Union’s Programme Officer pledged ongoing collaboration with the regulatory body to drive long-term progress in Nigeria.

NESREA Act empowers the agency to enforce all environmental laws, guidelines, policies, standards, and regulations in Nigeria.

It involves enforcing compliance with provisions of international agreements, protocols, conventions, and treaties on the environment to which Nigeria is a signatory.

NESREA is responsible for the protection and development of the environment, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development of Nigeria’s natural resources, as well as environmental technology.
