Jumia tightens e-commerce competition for Black Friday sales

Jumia, the online retail company is gearing up for tight competition between e-commerce platforms for Black Friday sales as it recently announced plans for its biggest Black Friday sales event ever, which will feature one million deals, a lottery gives away that includes a brand new car and round trip airline tickets to Europe over the course of 31days.

At a press conference organised to make the big announcement, Thomas Simonet, Chief Commercial Officer for Jumia said; “We are going to have one million deals split between two kinds of vendors, one is the local vendors who will bring basically500,000 deals every day, this is huge. In the past five years, we have accumulated about 10,000 local vendors and then the international vendors will bring another 500,000 offers with the best prices for our customers.”

Juliet Anammah, Ceo of Jumia Nigeria explained that this year’s Jumia black Friday is designed to bring customers exceptional value.

“We are always looking to push the envelope for online shoppers and this year we are bringing in a bigger dimension with the exclusive app- only flash sales, a weekly black Friday lottery draw and the first of its kind trace and Jumia mad (music and deals) fest,” Anammah said.

“For the first time ever Jumia has also teamed up with music entertainment company, Trace Naija to host the mad fest on Saturday, 18, November 2017.

The exclusive 2-in-1  concert and shopping event will feature Nigeria’s finest artistes including Simi, Falz, Wande Caol, 9ice,Mayorkun, Niniola, Sound Sultan, lil kesh, pencil, Jimmie DJ consequence, DJ cuppy and Nedu to thrill attendees. The exclusive app flash sales and the exciting giveaways including a 5000,000 shopping voucher are things to look out for” She added.

Some of the 2017 Jumia Black Friday surprise elements include a brand new ford figure from Coscharis motors Nigeria to be awarded to the lucky grand prize winner of the lottery.

According to Jumia, shoppers simply have to purchase an item during the course of the 31day event to be eligible to win any of the prizes which include; five Air France – KLM return tickets to Europe; 20 discounted Air France –KLM tickets at 35 percent off and much more.

Shoppers can also enjoy a 10 percent discount off their purchase when they make payment online, using an FCMB bank account via Jumia pay.

Back by customer demand, the online wheel of fortune will also be churning out free shopping vouchers daily to provide shoppers with additional discount to shop on Jumia.com. Those who download the Jumia app will gain special access to a special app-only deal sales event and flash sales in addition to instant notifications to snap the best deals before they sell out.

Jumia has the best prices across different categories, from electronics to baby and kids items, customers will find everything on Jumia this black Friday and even into the yuletide season,” Asuquo said.

The much anticipated event will run from Monday, 13 November to 13 December, 2017. The e-commerce company has partnered with top brands including Intel, pampers, Infinix, Phillips, Fero, HP, MTN, Coscharis, and Air France-KLM for this year’s Black Friday sales.
