Through the changing scenes (2)

employees

Many things are changing, and as I said in the last article, I came across a report on what was predicted to change. I felt that halfway through the year, it would be good to take stock. So far, what was predicted is coming to pass. However, now that countries are fully opening back up, some things may still change.

In this season, it is predicted that Employers will focus on their employees’ wellbeing. Health and wellness are on the front burner now. I got my wellness coaching certificate because of this. Employers are aware, now more than ever, of the importance of employee wellbeing and its impact on business success. Unfortunately, in the past months, because of the stress of the pandemic, employee wellbeing is fluctuating and decreasing.

Employers and HRM should focus on improving employee wellbeing while adapting to the “new normal” in 2021. They must find ways to create a flexible and healthy work environment and support mental wellbeing. Maintaining transparency and clear communication, believe it or not, is one of the ways to aid wellness in employees.

Other ways are making sure that people balance work and life, especially since they are both in the same place. Know how the people are feeling on a personal level. Employers should also see to it that they are keeping well because they need to wear their masks before they can help others. When people see them setting boundaries to protect their well-being, and the employees will follow suit.

Another prediction is that there may be a change in employee benefits to going with the change in working arrangements. In Nigeria, for example, working from home, people probably need help buying data or wifi and means of charging their equipment. If they are not working from the office, free lunch is no longer relevant. The cost of healthcare and wellness programs should now be prioritised.

Flexible working should be enabled, and payment for childcare may be included. All the different unique circumstances should be taken into consideration, and supportive action should be taken. By the way, please get in touch with me at [email protected] if you need any health and wellness programs. As I said before, I am a certified health and wellness coach.

Another prediction is that there will have to be paid for Covid19 sick leave. This is true, but fortunately, we were not so affected in Nigeria. Some people have lung Covid19 which is a chronic ailment as a result of the Covid19 virus. Employers need to accommodate this as best as they can.

A prediction that employers may require employees to take the anti Covid19 vaccination. This is a little dicey because you cannot force an employee to take a vaccine they do not want. There just has to be a lot of education 8. Employers may require employees to get the COVID-19 vaccination.

Again, there is a global prediction that Compliance will overload HR departments. We don’t have to worry too much about this because our labour laws are almost non-existent. Maybe a few regulations from the ministry of health will not directly overload HRM, but I guess indirectly with all the work from home policy creation and so on. This prediction has come to pass in that case.

Some things that were not predicted but that are coming to pass is the massive loss of business in specific areas such that quite a lot of companies will shut down or shut down some production lines. This happening will make money a little tight and may just make HRM’s work a tad bit more complicated.

There will be an increase in entrepreneurs, and this will cause shrinkage in the customer base. When there is such a shrinkage, it always impacts HRM. Also, the new entrepreneurs may still be in the workforce of the more influential organisations, which means there will be a loss of focus and sometimes concentration.

HRM needs to know how to manage all these things. The pandemic has put a human face on HRM. So even though more technology is being deployed, more emotional intelligence is required, and more soft skills required. This is what I have been saying for a while now. The future of work is soft skills and EI.

Have a good weekend and become innovative as to your meals. Make them cheaper but more nutritious. Add in a lot of vegetables.
