The Crystal River Chronicles: The visitors, is a beautifully crafted children’s book with picture illustrations. It tells the story of Bru and his “not so normal” younger sister Akiya, who embark on a dangerous journey beyond the shores of their little village to find the Guardian.
The 14-chapter children’s book skillfully written by Bee Ifezue is the first in the Crystal River Chronicles and is set in the fictional village of Esrom.
In the first chapter, the author paints a picture of the unhurried and happy everyday life of the Esromites as Bru and Akiya cool off by the calm river Timri, the only source of water in the village. We learn the history of Esrom and meet wise old Leah, the village seer.[admnager ad_id="desktop_1" placement="desktop" lazy="false"]
Chapter two introduces Navan the father of Bru and Akiya, a widower, and a widely travelled merchant who comes home bearing gifts for his children and other exotic items for trade. We get a peek into a certain magical and sinister object that Navan brought back from one of his trading journeys.
The “Zulaqs” arrive in chapter 3, a strange tribe with unusual physical features, dark magical practices and weird animals. Chapters 4-12 hold us spellbound with chronicles of the activities of the Zulaqs and the effects of their visit on the Esrom. The last two chapters take us on a captivating ride as Bru and Akiya embark on a dangerous journey through damp dark tunnels and rocky hills to the tree with leaves that glow like fire and the field of unicorns.
Bru and Akiya encounter the supernatural as they pass through the glistening Crystal River in search of the Guardian, the one who dwells on top of the mountain that lies beyond the realm of the Three Hills.
What did the arrival of the Zukaqs do to Esrom? Why did Bru and Akiya have to find the Guardian? Will their search be successful? These questions will be answered as you read this thrilling story.
I like the illustrations which resonate with the characters in the book and enhance the vivid images created in the story. The elegant illustrations and eye-catching details on the cover make this book one that will stand out on a shelf.
A thoroughly captivating and highly imaginative book. Impossible to put down. Although ideal for 8-12 year olds, however, this heartwarming tale is one that will make an interesting read for people of all ages. It includes wholesome messages about conquering fears, courage, truth, faith, and good triumphing over evil.
