Out-of-home media practitioners set to redefine industry

Practitioners in the multi-billion naira Out-of-home business are set to redefine and reposition the industry in a bid to make it more relevant and continually contribute more to national economy.

This will be the major focus of the yearly meeting of the Out-of –Home Advertising Association of Nigeria, OAAN holding next month in Ibadan, Oyo State with the theme: Redefining OOH Media in Nigeria, the practice, the business and value creation.

Sola Akinsiku, president of OAAN told newsmen recently that the theme is born out their desire to constantly and regularly review and examine the out-of-home media eco-system in line with prevailing exigencies and making the sub-sector of the national economy continuously relevant, responsive in all areas of their engagement and respected by critical stakeholder.

He said Lolu Akinwunmi, chief executive officer of Prima Garnet Africa and a veteran practitioner in advertising is the guest speaker.

According to OAAN president, the redefinition of the industry has become important as what was en-vogue some years ago has become obsolete and what is en-vogue today will be obsolete in a few years. “Therefore, we must constantly redefine the practice as what we will be in the next 5 years is a definition of what we do today”

Akinsiku said Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State and top functionaries of the government, leaders of various sectors, director general of ARCON and heads of advertising sectoral groups are expected at the yearly summit which is the 39 meeting of OAAN with about 100 members.

A total of N148.2 billion was spent on- out- of home advertising between 2018 and 2023, according to a new report commissioned by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and funded by various industry associations .
